WCHS DIRECTOR OF CHORAL & VOCAL ACTIVITES SINCE 2012 | GRAMMY NOMINEE MUSIC EDUCATOR

Tyler Wigglesworth is a graduate of The Biola University Conservatory of Music. He graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education with an emphasis in Voice and Choral Conducting. Wigglesworth studied voice under the direction of Dr. Susannah Murray and Mr. Tyler Thompson. In addition, he studied conducting with Mr. John Tebay, Mr. Robert Feller, and Dr. Shawna Stewart. Tyler has performed in and conducted such groups as the Biola University Chorale, the Biola University Vocal Jazz Ensemble, and the Paul Delgado Singers. He also participated in all of Biola University’s Opera Theater & Musical Theater Productions during the years of 2009-2012. In addition, he holds a Master of Arts in Teaching degree from Biola’s University’s School of Education, which has provided a platform for him to advocate for Visual and Performing Arts Programs within his school as well as the district as a whole. 

More recently, Tyler was named a Quarterfinalist for the Grammy Award for Music Educator of the Year for both 2018, 2019, & 2023. Also, he is a part of the Class of 2023 for Yamaha’s 40 under 40 of Excellent Music Educators. Tyler has conducted in world class venues across the nation such as Carnegie Hall (New York, NY), Grace Cathedral (San Francisco, CA), and The Renée & Henry Segrestrom Concert Hall (Irvine, CA) as well as internationally in countries such as Germany, and Czech Republic. Furthermore, he has been a sought-after adjudicator for select choral festivals and is an advocate for premiering new music compositions. He has worked with composers and songwriters such as Melanie Penn, AJ Harbison, Joel Balzun and Trevor Gomes to bring world premiere works to West Covina High School.

Tyler has been impacting the next generation of musicians as the Choir Director at West Covina High School (WCHS) since 2013 and the Performing Arts Academy Coordinator at WCHS since 2020. One of his biggest goals has been to bring the students of the West Covina High School Choral Department into the current Music Industry. To do so, he has cultivated relationships with organizations such as the Walt Disney Company, The Los Angeles Clippers, The Los Angeles Angels, and The Los Angeles Sparks. In addition, he has cultivated relationships for these organizations with music industry professionals such as Gordon Goodwin, Vangie Gunn, Nia Peeples, Ron Colvard, Tonatiuh, John Vaughan, Joel Balzun, Matthew Kellaway, and Andy Lunsford to name a few.

In addition to his work with the Choral Department and the Performing Arts Academy, Tyler has also been the Music Director for various Musical Theatre companies and organizations. He has worked on productions of In the Heights, Hairspray, Bright Star, How to Succeed In Business Without Really Trying, A Christmas Story: The Musical, Shrek: The Musical, Legally Blonde, Mamma Mia, High School Musical, Matilda as well as an upcoming production of HadesTown with West Covina High School’s Musical Theatre Department.

In 2018 Mr. Wigglesworth was a Quarterfinalist for the GRAMMY for Music Educator of the Year. As part of the quarterfinalist process he was asked to make a couple videos that reflected on his work as a music educator.

In addition, he was a legacy candidate for the 2019 GRAMMY for Music Educator of the Year
